Over the past 30+ years, I have enjoyed being a Christian Day School Teacher. There is no other time this is true than during Holy Week. By teaching the Passion Story and Good News to my students, my faith has grown in ways that would be beyond my comprehension if not for the Holy Spirit guiding me. I have enjoyed teaching through a variety of activities. My three favorites have been: Empty Tomb Cookies/Resurrection Cookies, Resurrection Garden, and Passion Story Resurrection Eggs. My challenge this week is for your family to do an activity together that will help you share the message of Passion and Resurrection that will lead to your faith growing. You may choose one of the ideas I’ve suggested or choose your own. With the help of the Internet there are hundreds of activities out there!!
In the photo I am sharing, is a picture of the notes I made regarding the Passion Story Resurrection Eggs I have done in recent years. It started about 15 years ago when I was given a set of Resurrection Eggs. My friend and former coworker, Marlene Hoverstock and I decided we could make our own and do as a Holy Week activity with our 4th and 5th grade classes. It’s still dear to my heart because it’s the last activity Marlene and I did together. I continue doing this with St. Peter’s 4th grade students as a way to honor her memory! I’m sad I can’t do it with the current class, at this time, but I will when possible! Feel free to do this activity. Each egg holds one of the items with the last egg being empty. If you don’t have items you can draw pictures to insert in each egg.
Please remember to text, email, or tag me in photos you take of the activities you do this week! I have LOVED being connected in this way.
Remember: Palm Sunday is the beginning of HIS triumphant victory. We know that Holy Week has many events that are troubling and sad to us as believers. However we also know that because Jesus took the weight of the worlds’ sins with Him to the cross, we each have a new beginning that leads to everlasting life with Him!
Romans 6:5- For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we will certainly also be united with Him in a resurrection like His.
