As I am sure most of you are aware, Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order that schools will be closed to students for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Distance learning will continue until the end of the academic year. As a staff, we are saddened by this announcement, but we recognize the importance of keeping our entire St. Peter’s family safe and healthy. Nothing can replace the daily activities students are missing by not be in their regular classrooms. Social lessons are so important, and the connection staff and students have just isn’t the same when teaching from a distance.
As I stated previously, I continue to be inspired by so many of you who are daily making sacrifices at home and in the workplace. I am overwhelmed by the kindness you have shared with our staff, as they have gone above and beyond to make sure that the lessons they give are challenging and with a rigor that will make sure students are at the level they need to be in order to complete the grade level they are currently in. Distance learning was a term none of us had used two months ago, and we continue to learn by trial and error. The assistance our families are giving is very appreciative.
Our staff will be “meeting” this week to discuss the plans we have for the end of the year, including: End of the 4th Marking Period, Issuing of Report Cards, Graduation Events, as well as desk and locker cleanout. We will keep social distancing as an area of importance when decisions are made.
St. Peter’s has a group of individuals who will be working on a plan for the reopening of our school for the 2020-2021 school year. We know that God has a plan for us, and we are encouraged by your support knowing that our school can continue to meet the needs of those in our community.
I continue to pray for each of you daily! I ask that you pray for all of those in leadership positions. Pray that they have wisdom when making important decisions. Please stay safe and healthy while following the guidelines we are given.
God’s blessings,
